Ocean Hangover

(From a collection called "The Ocean Poems".)
I crested the hill and saw the surf
No doubt I now owned this turf
Plunged into the waves bent on hell
Let out a scream as foot met shell
This scream never did exit my mouth
Water arrived in my throat and headed south
Nature's fluid all salty and harsh
Made waves in my stomach, my insides a marsh
Came up from down under heaving and gagging
Only three feet of water but still I was dragging
Made way to the shallow and let the fit subside
Breakers crashed and with me did collide
Found myself once more submerged
Another heave as the inside was purged
Was seriously considering a quick surrender
When I looked up and saw the eight foot life-ender
Thinking quick I dove at its heart
Ripping through safe and feeling smart
Confident now and expecting another
Wasn't expecting its ten foot brother
The aftermath of which I have already described
Results were sand's marks on my skin inscribed
Chose to throw in the towel at last
I'd had enough of the ocean kicking my ass
Made my way back home tired and groggy
Muscles ached and vision was foggy
Decided to spend some time in the sack
And hope my strength would soon come back
No such luck for when sleep was over
I awoke with the likings of a vicious hangover
No alcohol needed to ruin my motion
Just a day of battling a powerful Ocean.
